Hi Tor’s Adoptable Pets – 9/19/19

Nova has been at the shelter for a long time. She is one of our special dogs who has been listed as a “Rescue Only” because she has been returned for guarding her favorite human. Nova is a gorgeous terrier mix who would make a single person with a quiet home a great companion. She likes other dogs and gets along with cats. Her only issue is her overwhelming attachment to just one person in the family. If you think you could make Nova your furry partner in life, we would love to see her get her second chance.

Syre is a 4 year-old goofy meatball who just needs to find the right fit for him. He is gentle, happy and has an equally-balanced personality between playful and calm. He doesn’t mind other friendly dogs but does get nervous around some men. Once there is a proper introduction, he becomes a lovable squishy face. He would do best in a home with older teens or adult couple.

Soltan is new to the shelter. He is three years old and was surrendered about a week ago because his family moved. He is friendly and playful. He would love a family with no other pets but kids over 10 would be great! He still needs some leash training here but would be a great dog for the right family! Email Doug@hitor.org to meet Nova, Syre or Soltan.

Harry is a long haired tabby who is about 9-10 weeks old. He was a little difficult when he came to stay with his foster mom. He spit and hissed for the first day. His foster had to syringe-feed him. He is the smallest of the bunch. He just learned to go up and down the stairs. He is now happy-go-lucky Harry. He also loves to love bite on your fingers. If you are interested in Harry email Kristine@hitor.org.

Linus is a 15 month old male cat. He is very sweet but can be a bit shy. He loves to play and has lived with other cats and a dog before!

Get ready to fall in love with this face! Fawn is a female cat who is about 2 years old. She is very sweet playful and loving. She likes other cats but would need to be tested with dogs. If you are interested in Linus or Fawn please email Amber@hitor.org.

Hi Tor’s Adoptable Pets – 9/12/19

Miracle is our Christmas miracle. We are closed to the public on Christmas day. But Miracle showed up and we happily opened our doors to save her. She was brought to us as a stray. Like many of the dogs who come through our doors, we hear stories and learn more from neighbors or friends after people begin seeing the dog brought into the shelter. From what we understand weeks earlier Miracle was left tied to a tree for hours until her owners came back. The fact is we are so happy this beautiful little soul is now safe and can find her forever home that will love and dote on her as she so deserves. She is around two years old. This bouncy girl would benefit from a home with structure. She like to learn new tricks and when she is rewarded with a tasty treat. Miracle is house trained and would be most comfortable in a home with a single adult, so she only has one person to call her own. Miracle would be a great apartment or condo dog as long as she gets a few walks each day.

Tonka is a new dog to the shelter. He was brought in as a stray with another small dog. His owner called and no longer wanted them. Tonka lived with two other small dogs but is not good with cats. He is a goofy, good natured dog who can be quite chatty when he sees his favorite staff member in the morning. He is happiest when he is with people and in the pool. He loves water and chunky chew toys. Stop by and meet this handsome guy. You will just love his smile.

This handsome guy is Coco, He is a three-year-old terrier mix. Coco was brought to the shelter as an owner surrender. Coco is a loving, active guy. He loves going on long walks and is quite playful. He loves to run and check out his surroundings when he is let into our pens. Coco needs to live in a home without cats and due to his activity level, older children. But he lived with a small dog in the past and has done well with friendly dogs here at the shelter. Coco is quite affectionate and loves humans. With someone who is willing to set boundaries and consistent training for this love, he will be a dream dog. If you are interested in Miracle, Tonka or Coco please email Doug@hitor.org.

Bella is super energetic 8 week-old kitten and loves to run around and play. She is so friendly and loves to be pet and cuddled. She is so sweet and ready to meet you.

Peanut is also 8 weeks old and loves playing. She’s very friendly and gets along with her sisters and brother so well. She is such a sweetheart and she loves to be cuddled and kissed.

Luna is a friendly, very cuddly kitten. She is such a mush. She loves being held and kissed but she also loves playing. Whether it’s with her toys or her siblings she always has so much fun. All of the kittens are in foster care so please email Amber@hitor.org for more info.

Hi Tor’s Adoptable Pets – 9/5/19

Milton was brought in as a stray and appeared to have been outside for quite a while. When he came in, he was full of ticks but, after our staff cleaned him up and after a vet visit, Milton is now doing great with us. Milton needs some leash walking skills but, is quite a sweetie. He knows some basic commands. Milton wants to live out his days as an only pet. Due to his strength, a home with teenagers fifteen and up would be the best fit.

Hennessy is a 7-year-old female Rottweiler. She is super sweet with humans. Hennessey is easy to walk on a leash and knows many of her commands. She was on hold for a while because she has a large bump that the staff was scared was serious. The vet gave her a clean bill of health. It’s only a calcification. She promises she is an amazing girl who will be a great addition to your family. She would need to be the only pet. Hennessey is currently in foster care and is not at the shelter.

Roxie is a 4-year-old snow white and tan bully mix who came to the shelter in April 2017 as a surrender after her family moved and could not take her with them. She lived with four children of all ages in her previous home but because she has been at the shelter for so long, we would recommend children over 12 now. She is a bit fearful of strangers and quick movements towards her. She is a calm and polite dog who likes to walk and sniff the grass with her favorite volunteers. She would do great in a calm home where she could relax and decompress but also still get outside to explore and play with her favorite toys. Roxie has lived with other animals in the past but a meet and greet would be necessary.

Sterling is a 4-year-old stunningly handsome bully breed mix who came to the shelter as a stray from Pearl River. He has been at the shelter for almost 18 months. He needs a place to run and play. He loves water and is the first one to dive into our doggie pools during the summer. He would need a disciplined owner with teens and older who will correct any negative behavior and redirect him if he starts to get overexcited with his leash or toys. Sterling should be the only pet.

Sparky is a 3 year-old male brindle bully terrier mix who came to the shelter as a stray as a one year old pup. He was adopted pretty quickly but due to an eviction his owner had to sadly bring him back. Sparky should be the only pet in the home and he starts off shy and a bit timid so that’s why we feel he would do best with older kids who can give him the time he needs to open up. He loves to run and catch tennis balls and roll in the grass. He would make a great adventure partner for young person or couple. For more info on Sparky Milton, Roxie, Sterling or Hennessey please email Doug@hitor.org.

Who doesn’t love a good Meatball? He is 2 years old kitty cat and so cute! He is good with other cats and has really started to come out of his shell. Meatball is ready for a home of his own! He would need some time and understanding but will be so greatful to be in a home. Email Amber@hitor.org.

Hi Tor’s Adoptable Pets – 8/29/19

Coco is a three year-old terrier mix. Coco was brought to us as an owner surrender. Coco is a loving active guy. He loves going on long walks and is quite playful. He loves to run and check out his surroundings when he is let into our pens. Coco has a high prey drive and cannot live in a home with cats. Due to his activity level, older children would be a great fit. Coco is quite affectionate and loves humans. With someone who is willing to set boundaries and consistent training for this love, he will be a dream dog.

All Storm wants is some love from her very own family who loves her. We promise she will adore you. Storm is a two year-old medium sized terrier mix. She was brought to Hi Tor from a very kind vet. She had a urinary tract infection and had not been spayed so her owner decided there was something wrong and they didn’t want her. Now, it takes Storm some time to warm up to new people, but she is a now a runner with the Dog Trotters and her personality has really started to shine through. She is much better walking on the leash but will run after anything furry things that moves so the nice people here believe that she can’t live with cats. She would benefit from an experienced dog owner and someone who wants to stay active with her.

Handsome Riley is about 4 1/2 years old and came to the shelter as a stray on May 22, 2016. That’s 3 long years at the shelter. Riley is quite a goofball. He absolutely loves his people! He does do silly things and is a quirky guy but is deserving to find a home with people who understands him and his silliness. Riley is house-trained, leash trained and neutered. He loves being around people and we think he would be a couch potato when he gets into a home. For more info on Coco, Storm or Riley please email Doug@hitor.org.

Linus is a handsome 15 month-old male cat who was surrendered when he was reacting to the dog in the house by spraying where the dog had been. Linus is a magnificent black cat with a white diamond design on his forehead. He is friendly and personable cat who would do great in a family without dogs.

Maxx is a regal 9 month-old male who was surrendered to the shelter back in April. He sadly was not able to stay with his owner due to landlord issues. He is a large cat who would be so grateful to have a home of his own!

Fawn is a sweet 2 year-old female cat who is very new to the shelter. She was left outside as a stray when her owners moved away. The neighbors tried to take care of her but she was not safe so they brought her to the shelter. For more info on Linus, Maxx or Fawn please email Amber@hitor.org

Hi Tor’s Adoptable Pets – 8/1/19

The more we get to know Pumba, the more we fall in love. Pumba is a young male dog who was sadly found tied to a tree by his leash in our driveway. He walks nicely on a harness and is learning his manners. He has a very soft, coat and chocolatey coloring with soft eyes and a big smiley face. Pumba deserves to find a home who will love him and keep him safe forever. For more info on Pumba email Doug@hitor.org.

Miracle is our Christmas miracle. HiTor is closed to the public on Christmas day. But Miracle showed up and they happily opened their doors to save her. She was brought in as a stray. From what we understand, weeks earlier Miracle was left tied to a tree for hours until her owners came back. She’s around two years old. This bouncy girl would benefit from a home with structure. She likes to learn new tricks when she is rewarded with a tasty treat. Miracle is house-trained and would be most comfortable in a home with a single adult, so she only has one person to call her own. Miracle would be a great apartment or condo dog as long as she gets a few walks each day. If you are interested in Miracle, please email Doug@hitor.org.

Who wouldn’t want to wake up to this sweet face every day? Shelby is a spunky girl dog with lots of love to give. She came in as a stray and is a young girl with her whole life ahead of her. Shelby is a smart girl who has mastered “sit” and is eager to learn more. Shelby appreciates time to adapt to new places and would do especially well with adults and teens. She would need a meet-and-greet with any other dogs in the home.

Tonka is new to the shelter. This dog was brought in with another small dog. His owner called and no longer wanted them. Tonka lived with two other small dogs but is not good with cats. He is a goofy, good-natured dog who can be quite chatty when he sees his favorite staff member in the morning. He is happiest when he is with people and in the pool. He loves water and chunky chew toys. Stop by and meet this handsome guy. You will just love his smile. For more info on Tonka email Doug@hitor.org.

Bailey is a 5 year-old beautiful calico and she’s has waited long enough for her forever family! She is the longest resident at the Annex but we think today is her day!! Bailey is a sweet cat who loves to bask in the sunlight and enjoys being brushed and pet. But, she needs some time to learn that you are her friend. She would thrive in a home with a patient, loving adopter who will give her time to open up and adjust in her new environment. She can be shy around unfamiliar people, but once she gets to know you she is eager to call you one of her best friends! She’ll make an amazing companion for someone who likes to enjoy life’s quiet moments. Bailey is not at the shelter. To meet Bailey please email Nixie at Gentlesouls@aol.com.

Daisy came in last summer at only 7 weeks old, sadly she was the only survivor of her litter.  After 3 months of continued care, there were few signs of improvement, she remained so lethargic she needed to be taken into foster care. Daisy showed immediate improvement, however, her need to remain on antibiotics was clear.  After months of diagnostic blood work, it has been determined that Daisy has a chronic low grade infection that flares up in times of stress. You’d never know it however, seeing her zoom around the annex and walk on her leash!!!   This little girl may remain a special needs baby, however, our hope is that she will outgrow her need to be on regular courses of antibiotics. Daisy is a tiny girl, her growth a bit stunted but that only adds to her charm.  She is a very confident little orange cat weighing in at a little over 5 lbs.  Orange cats are usually male, but Daisy is no common girl!  She gets along very well with other cats and loves to be held and petted.  If you would like to meet Daisy please email Nixie at gentlesouls@aol.com to schedule a meet and greet.  She is being fostered in New City, she is not at the shelter.

Hi Tor’s Adoptable Pets – 7/25/19

After 4 1/2 years at the shelter and 6 weeks of Board & Train – it is with great joy that we announce our Cosmo is ready for her forever home and is now AVAILABLE for adoption!!! Cosmo is a 5-year-old black lab mix who came to the shelter as a 7-month-old puppy with fear and guarding issues. Cosmo is looking for a family to call her own. She gets along great with other dogs (no cats). She is house trained, leash trained with amazing recall, doesn’t chew anything and is very obedient. She is loving, affectionate and calm. She is currently staying with Master Trainer Frank while she awaits her new home. He and his staff have offered to assist Cosmo’s new family with in-home training or assistance as necessary. Please email Doug@hitor.org with questions and PLEASE SHARE so we can find Cosmo her forever home.

Nathan is a pudgy little Chihuahua mix and was found about two weeks ago running loose near the Mount Ivy Diner in Pomona. He waited and waited but no one ever came for him. We believe he is between 4-6 years old. He seems to get along with other friendly dogs his size. He will be cat tested this week. He is on a portion-controlled diet and is getting lots of exercise. Nathan will be neutered and then he will be ready for his new family!

Teddy is a 2-year-old shepherd mix who was surrendered to us about two weeks ago. He is a playful pup who has done well with other friendly dogs in his old home but will chase cats if given the chance. He is looking for a home with older teens (16+) or adults. He is house-trained and knows most of his commands. Please share Teddy so we can find him his forever home soon. For more info please email Doug@hitor.org!

This is our handsome Riley. He is about 4 1/2 years old and came to the shelter as a stray on May 22, 2016. That’s three long years at the shelter. Riley is quite a goofball. He absolutely loves his people! He does do silly things and is a quirky guy but is deserving to find a home with people who understands him and his silliness. Riley is house-trained, leash trained and neutered. He loves being around people and we think he would be a couch potato when he gets into a home.

Sparky is a 3-year-old male brindle bully terrier mix who came to the shelter as a stray as a one-year old pup. He was adopted quickly but due to an eviction his owner had to sadly bring him back. Sparky should be the only pet in the home, and he starts off shy and a bit timid so that’s why we feel he would do best with older kids who can give him the time he needs to open up. But once he gets to know and trust you, he is a sweet pup. He loves to run and catch tennis balls and roll in the grass. He would make a great adventure partner for young person or couple.

We have one little rabbit still at the shelter. All the others are in foster homes. Little Britta is a four-month-old female mini Dutch mix. Please consider fostering Britta so that she can be out of the noisy shelter, and into a cool home. We will provide you with a cage and supplies. Please email us at Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com.

Hi Tor’s Adoptable Pets – 7/5/19

Thanks everyone who came out to the “1st annual Paws on the Pier” event last weekend. Over $8000 was raised to benefit the shelter and the Piermont Community Dog park. And congrats to Breena, Biggie, Lily, Churro and Ellie on their adoptions. And Pebbles and Max, HiTor’s bonded senior pair, were transferred to the senior sanctuary at Paws Unlimited in Kingston NY!

Khali is about three years old. Her owner dropped her off at a boarding kennel and never came back. That was in Dec 2017. She loves snuggling with her humans and her toys. She has been to training so she walk pretty well on a leash and knows how to sit for a treat. We think older children would be the best family for her due to her strength. She sometimes get a little excited and needs to be corrected. We think her family is out there somewhere!

Thor is hoping someone out there will see his photo and come get him. He is a very good boy but for some reason he doesn’t get a lot of attention when adopters come to visit. Maybe he doesn’t stand out enough? Thor was a family dog and lived with kids. He was sadly surrendered when his family lost their home and was living out of a car. They didn’t want to give him up but they had no choice. There were so many tears on the day they dropped him off. According to his former family, Thor was never really around other dogs so he should be the only dog in the house. He was surrendered with a cat who was already adopted, but the shelter isn’t sure how much he was actually around the cat in my old house. I am strong but very loving and goofy. Will you give him a chance to have a home and family again.

Nova’s been at the shelter for a long time. She is one of our special dogs who is listed as a “Rescue Only” because she has been returned for guarding her favorite human. Nova is a gorgeous terrier mix who would make a single person with a quiet home a great companion. She likes other dogs and gets along with cats. Her only issue is her overwhelming attachment to just one person in the family. If you think you could make Nova your furry partner in life, we would love to see her get her second chance.

Here’s Clifford! This young pup would love a Dad and Mom who will take him for adventures then let him curl up with them at night. He has been here so long and none of the volunteers can figured out why. Everywhere he goes, Clifford gets so much attention but no one ever fills out an application for him. Clifford still needs some training but is a really good boy who would love a home with lots of kids and people to play with. He would do best with no cats in the house.

Teddy is a two-year-old shepherd mix who was surrendered to the shelter about two weeks ago. He is a playful pup who has done well with other friendly dogs in his old home but will chase cats if given the chance. He is looking for a home with older teens (16+) or adults. He is house-trained and knows most of his commands. Please help Teddy find his forever home soon.

Yes, she looks a little different, but that’s what makes her beautiful. This cat is Sophia and she is 6-years-old. She has been through a lot in her life especially after they removed her eye. We were so afraid no one would want to adopt her But, she is fully recovered and has a lot of love to give. Sophia loves to be pet but she really doesn’t like to be picked up because she can’t always see where she is being brought to. We think she could live with older calmer cats but no dogs please. Do you have a place in your family for a special cat like Sophia? Email Amber@hitor.org for more info.

Hi Tor’s Adoptable Pets – 6/20/19

Sparky is a 1-year-old male pit bull mix who came to the shelter as a stray. Sparky is good with other dogs but it will depend on the dog. He has not been tested with cats yet. Sparky starts off shy and a bit timid so that’s why he would probably do best with older kids who can give him the time he needs to open up. But once he gets to know and trust you he is a sweet lovable pup. And the fact that he is still in puppy mode means he’ll be full of energy and will need continued obedience training.

Biscuit is a beautiful young female terrier mix who came to the shelter as a stray about 3 weeks ago. She was brought in by the police after she was found running loose in a restaurant parking lot. She came in sick and was diagnosed with pneumonia. She spent a few days at the shelter Vet’s office and is feeling great now. Biscuit is a very quiet and calm dog. She loves people, doesn’t mind other dogs and ignores cats. She is house-trained and walks great on a leash. Biscuit is a low maintenance dog who just wants to be loved. How can you not fall in love with this beach babe?

Biggie is our newest dog at the shelter. He was surrendered about two weeks ago when his owners moved. He is about 6 years old and would make a wonderful addition to your family. He is calm and friendly. He is great around kids and has had no issues with other dogs. He is house trained and well-mannered when meeting people. Biggie spent 6 years in a home and is so confused as to how he ended up at a shelter. He really needs to be back in a home where he can spend his days loving his humans.

This big girl is Breena. She is a 3 1/2 year old Mastiff mix who was surrendered to the shelter when she began having problems with the male dog in the household. She was originally adopted from Hi Tor as a young puppy so she is very sad to be back. Breena is a large dog who loves to be with people. She is gentle and quite the lap dog. Breena will make a great family dog who the kids will love to play with! She should be the only dog in the house. For more info on Biscuit, Biggie, Sparky or Breena please email Doug@hitor.org.

Ezra is a 10-year-old senior who came to the shelter as a stray from Orangetown. She has been at the shelter since July 2017. So she is now one of the longest residents. She is a special cat who needs a patient and caring owner. Her adoption fee has been sponsored by one of our amazing supporters. So as long as her future family met all our adoption requirements, Ezra would be free.

Several weeks ago a resident in Chestnut Ridge noticed a very small, obviously domestic rabbit running loose in his neighborhood. He was determined to save her, knowing she could not survive outside. After two weeks he was able to rescue her. He contacted Hi Tor not knowing what to do. Our small animal team had him surrender her to Hi Tor, but continue to foster her because she was pregnant! Three days later Thumper began pulling hair and making a nest. That night she gave birth to four babies. Thumper’s foster family is doing an amazing job caring for this little family. Once the babies are weaned they will be available for adoption. For more information please email us at Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com.

Hi Tor’s Adoptable Pets – 6/13/19

Teddy is a two-year-old shepherd mix who was surrendered to us about two weeks ago. He is a playful pup who has done well with other friendly dogs in his old home but will chase cats if given the chance. He is looking for a home with older teens (16+) or adults. He is house-trained and knows most of his commands. Please help Teddy find his forever home soon.

Hello, meet Hennessy. She is a six year old Rottweiler who was surrendered by her family. She is super sweet with humans. The staff and volunteers love her. She is easy to walk on a leash and completely trained. She knows all her basic commands. Hennessy was on hold for a while because she has a large bump on her elbow that the shelter was concerned about. The vet gave her a clean bill of health so she is now available. It’s only a calcification! She is now looking for my forever family at six. She is an amazing looking pure breed dog who will be the perfect girl in your home. She should be the only female dog in the house.

This happy girl is Ellie. She came in as a stray from Spring Valley weeks ago. She appears to be about a year old. She is a very friendly, gentle dog and has proved herself to be great with kids! She is sociable, likes being dressed up and walks well on a leash. She is a family dog who would love a house full of kids to play with. She would need a meet and greet with any other dogs but so far has been very good with friendly dogs her size. For more info on Teddy, Hennessy or Ellie please email Doug@hitor.org!

Chocolate Chip and Tink were surrendered together by their owner in August 2018 when a family member developed allergies. They are both seven and a half year old females. They are bonded so we would like to keep them together. Their adoption fees have been sponsored by a generous donor so as long as a potential adopter meets all the adoption requirements, there would be no cost to adopt both.

Cici is a 4-year-old female cat who is active and energetic cat. She needs a home where she can get plenty of exercise that she needs. Cici has not known an interest in the other cats but might be okay living in a home with cats, or just as an only cat. Cici needs an adult only home with adopters who have had experience owning cats. She has been at the shelter since 2015. For more info on Cici , Chocolate Chip and Tink call the shelter and speak to Amber!

Hi Tor’s Adoptable Pets – 5/16/19

All the volunteers are shocked that Ellie is still available! Ellie came in as a stray after a nice family found her. She is great with kids of all ages! Ellie is really careful to be gentle with the young ones! The staff says she is one of the most adoptable dogs here right now! She is about 2 yrs old and loves to go for car rides and walks. Ellie likes other friendly dogs but is not so sure about cats.

This is Buster. I bet your first instinct when you see him will be to count his bottom teeth! The volunteers love his crooked teeth. And sometimes his lip gets stuck; they like that too. He was found in Suffern tied to a fence a few months ago. Everyone was so nice when they found him and kept him safe until he was brought to the shelter. Buster was shy at first but no more. He is the King of the Lean. He leans on you until you pet him or give him a treat! He loves people and walks. He would need a meet and greet with other dogs. He is going to be cat-tested very soon.

Three years at the shelter and counting. Brooklyn isn’t just a great running partner but he is also one of the smartest dogs we have here. He is 7 years old and now has over 125 miles of running with the Dog Trotters under his collar! Brooklyn looks better than ever! Are you a runner, hiker or leisurely walker who would like a furry partner? Brooklyn is your dog! For more info on Ellie, Buster or Brooklyn email Doug@hitor.org.

Zoey is a one year-old female who was brought to the shelter as a stray. Zoey has been there for about 3 months. As you can see her ear is clipped so at some point someone thought she was a feral cat but she actually is not. Zoey really likes people and would love to be someone’s pet! The staff just moved her into the front lobby so more people can see her!

Marvin is an 11 month-old, silky-coated, grey and white cat. He came in as a shy stray back in July 2018 but now is a playful cat who has waited long enough for a home of his own.

Boo is a two year-old female cat who came to the shelter as a feral but we soon realized she would make a great house cat. She is good with other cats but would prefer a house with teens and adults. She seems a bit shy when you first meet Boo but after a couple pets on the head she warms up to you pretty quickly. She is now a popular lobby cat and we know it’s just a matter of time until she finds her forever home! If you are interested in meeting Zoey, Marvin or Boo email Amber@hitor.org.
