Two people escaped a Congers house fire yesterday without injury. They got out of the Garnet Lane home safely though the house was damaged. Lohud.com says the fire started in the basement wall and went all the way up to the attic. Valley Cottage, New City, Central Nyack and West Nyack firefighters all responded to the scene. The blaze is under investigation, but it reportedly does not appear suspicious.

“Skinner Corner” Officially Dedicated in Stony Point
An intersection in Stony Point affectionately known locally as “Skinner Corner” now officially has that designation. Stony Point supervisor Jim Monaghan says the area where West Main Street, Wayne Avenue and Bulsontown Road all meet has always been referred to by the name of the family that’s lived there for over 70 years…
The dedication ceremony was held earlier this month, and a sign now marks the area officially as Skinner Corner.
Getting Tobacco and Vape Products? You’ll Need to be 21 as of Today in NYS
If you’re under the age of 21, you can no longer buy any tobacco or vaping products in New York State. A bill passed with the budget earlier this year goes into effect today.
Legislation Signed by NYS Governor to Strengthen Protections for Veterans
New York’s governor signed a new package of bills that will strengthen protections for New Yorkers who serve or have served in the armed forces. Governor Andrew Cuomo says the bills help honor veterans every day, not just on Veteran’s Day, by providing additional education, employment and healthcare services to them and their families…
The bill also calls for the establishment of the first New York State Veterans Cemetery.
Nanuet WW2 Veteran Urges Soldiers to Use Area Resources When they Need Help
Veterans around the county were honored yesterday and over the weekend. At Clarkstown’s annual Veterans Day ceremony at the Street School Community Center in New City, World War Two veteran and Concentration Camp Liberator Alan Moskin of Nanuet read off some sobering statistics about veterans that are homeless or commit suicide, and urged all veterans to utilize Rockland resources if they need help…
