Orangetown Condemns Release of Bohovesky Killer; Asks Governor to Reconsider
The town of Orangetown – home to Paula Bohovesky – passed a resolution at its board meeting last week condemning the state parole board’s decision to release one of her killers and asking the governor to override it. Supervisor Chris Day says he fears Richard LaBarbera, who lived in Pearl River when he was convicted in the Bohovesky killing, could return when he is released…
A caller to “The Morning Show” last week also disagreed with the board’s decision to release LaBarbera…
Robert McCain remains in prison, but is expected to come before the parole
board any day now. He and LaBarbera were both convicted of Bohevesky’s
October 1980 murder. She was beaten, stabbed and sexually assaulted while
on her way home from the Pearl River Library. The parole board did not
indicate when LaBarbera would be freed. Bohovesky supporters will be
holding a silent vigil at the Pearl River Library this Saturday night.

roof of the Axa Equitable Center building on 7th Avenue near Times Square
yesterday in midtown Manhattan. New York governor Andrew Cuomo said it
appears to be an accident…

Possible Measles Exposure at Spring Valley Pharmacy; State Senator Brings Bill to Protect Summer Camps
The Rockland County Health Department is warning of a possible measles
exposure in Spring Valley. Anyone who visited "Pharmacy Plus" on North
Main Street on Tuesday, May 28th, from 1 to 4 in the afternoon may have
been exposed. The county also recently told summer camps they have to make
sure staff and campers have had their measles vaccinations before the
season begins. Rockland State Senator David Carlucci has introduced a bill
to bring a similar policy state-wide…
Rockland County Executive Ed Day says he’s concerned the bill may not pass…
If the bill is passed and signed it wouldn’t take effect until October, so it would be in place for next year’s summer camp season. Free MMR vaccines are available at the Rockland County Department of Health, Building A in Pomona this afternoon from 4 to 6pm and other days throughout the rest of the month. There’s no appointment necessary. Of the more than 800 cases in New York, 259 of them are in Rockland.
Clarkstown School District to Discuss Pest Management at Tonight’s Board Meeting
The Clarkstown School District will be discussing its pest management
issues at tonight’s board meeting after photos of roaches in the North
High School locker room recently surfaced online. Clarkstown supervisor
George Hoehmann says the same problem has been an issue on and off there
for years…
In a letter to district parents, Superintendent of Schools Martin Cox said pest management at North High School can be challenging because "steam utility tunnels under the building are small, dark and damp, and they create a continual source of shelter and water for pests." The meeting is being held tonight at the Felix Festa Middle School at 7pm.
