Clarkstown Aims to Get Potholes on State Roads Fixed

Town supervisor George Hoehmann says they spoke to the state Department of Transportation about the issue last Friday…

A new survey from AAA released yesterday found that last year 1 in 10 drivers suffered vehicle damage that needed repairs after hitting a pothole, each costing an average of nearly $600 per repair. Damage caused by potholes cost drivers $26.5 billion in 2021 alone.

NY Boulders Add Two Pre-Season Charity Games vs. NYPD and NYFD

The New York Boulders will play two benefit pre-season games the first weekend of May as they get ready for the 2022 Frontier League campaign. The Boulders will play the FDNY Bravest on Friday, May 6th, and then on May 7th, they go against the NYPD Finest. Each seven-inning game is free, but you have to reserve a ticket at NYBoulders.com. Proceeds from the FDNY match will benefit the family of Jared Lloyd, the Spring Valley volunteer firefighter who was killed in the Evergreen assisted living facility blaze last year. Proceeds from the NYPD game will go to the families of Detectives Jason Rivera and Wilbert Mora, who were killed in the line of duty on Jan. 21st responding to a domestic dispute in Harlem. So, make sure you buy something from the concession stands.

Rockland County Youth Bureau Now Accepting Applications for 2022 Rockland Conservation & Service Corps

The Rockland County Youth Bureau is now accepting applications for the 2022 Rockland Conservation & Service Corps. Now in its 22nd year, Rockland County Executive Ed Day says Conservation Corps members perform a variety of outdoor, environmental community service projects throughout the Rockland region…

The corps is open to students who are at least 18. They’re required to serve 350 hours between May 23rd and mid to late August at local sites including the Rockland County Division of Environmental Resources, the Clarkstown Planning Department, the Town of Ramapo, the Rockland County Drainage Agency, Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, Cornell Cooperative Extension, and more. Applications are due Friday, April 8th. You can get an application by calling 845-364-2937 or send an email to rcsc@co.rockland.ny.us.

NY Immigration Coalition Urges U. S. to Take in Ukrainian Refugees

The New York Immigration Coalition is among the groups urging the United States to take in as many Ukrainian refugees as possible, as Ukraine faces an ongoing invasion by Russia. New York has roughly 150-thousand Ukrainian residents, the largest population in the nation. Nicole Catá, with the New York Immigration Coalition, hopes to see resources directed to beefing up the refugee program…

New York Governor Kathy Hochul has said New York is prepared to coordinate with the Biden administration to accept refugees fleeing the conflict…

Catá says the U-S needs to strengthen and rebuild its refugee program.
