People to People in West Nyack is seeking COVID-19 relief funds from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). People to People continued to service people and families through the COVID-19 pandemic operating every week to ensure that the community had the food security that it needed. Most of People to People’s workforce is comprised of volunteers but like many businesses they faced a lack of workforce and were forced to begin hiring employees. Although during the start of the COVID pandemic People to People helped service an additional 400 families per month during the pandemic.
The nation is currently undergoing a baby formula shortage affecting families nationwide and locally. With recent recalls and supply chain issues the shortage has reached 40 percent for the out of stock rate for New York. According to News 12, manufacturers have stated that they are working at 100 percent capacity but parents are still stating it’s not enough. The Shortage largely stemmed from a recall back in February of popular powder formulas. Name brands such as Similac, Alimentum, and EleCare took their products off of shelves when two baby deaths were linked to the products coming from their Michigan manufacturing plant operated by Abbott Nutrition. Last month Abbott Nutrition said that they were working with the FDA to restart operations. Milk Banks in New York state are seeing increased demands such as the New York Milk Bank in Valhalla, although they firmly state that they will be able to meet the demand. A prescription from your child’s pediatrician is necessary if you plan or need to get milk from a local bank. Medical Experts do advise to avoid diluting or rationing baby formula as it can be detrimental for a child’s health.
The NY Boulders are set to take on the Sussex County Miners today at 7:00pm for opening night, the first game of the season. Opening night will feature a performance by the East Ramapo marching band as well as foam finger and scrolling banner giveaways presented by Clover.
