It could be months before the county legislature formulates a framework for licensing livery and taxi cabs in Rockland, including Uber and Lyft ride share vehicles. Clarkstown Legislator and Legislature Minority Leader, Lon Hofstein, says the potential law would make sure citizens getting rides from someone else are safe, but it requires working with many other municipalities…
The town of Ramapo recently adopted a law that’s being processed in Albany before it can go into effect. Ramapo Supervisor Michael Specht says it only covers the unincorporated portions of town, and it doesn’t cover ride-sharing services like Uber…
Fees for the Ramapo law are still being worked out. Licensing fees for the potential county law haven’t been established yet, and guidelines are in the process of being formulated.

A Hudson Valley environmental group is hosting a symposium on Friday that focuses on the Hudson River and commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Clean Water Act. Enacted in 1972, the Clean Water Act established the goal of fishable and swimmable waters across the nation by 1983, and the elimination of pollutants into navigable waters by 1985. Though these goals haven’t been met yet, water quality has improved. Manna Jo Greene is the Environmental Action Director of the group Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, and she says tomorrow’s presentation, “Drinkable, Swimmable, Fishable,” and its panel of experts, will look at the past, present and future of the river…
The symposium features keynote speaker John Cronin, a life-long activist and Hudson River advocate. It’s tomorrow from 8:30-1pm in Kaplan Hall at SUNY Orange in Newburgh. It’s free but registration is required. Do that at www.ClearWater.org.
