Two Fires Under the Microscope in Ramapo

Though years of building and zoning code issues and a legal battle with Metro-North railroad weren’t enough to shut down Motty’s supermarket in Monsey, a fire did in February. No one was hurt in the blaze, but the fire has taken center stage, along with the fire just weeks later at a Spring Valley adult home that claimed the life of a volunteer firefighter and a resident. The latter fire occurred in the village of Spring Valley, part of the town of Clarkstown, but the Motty’s fire took place within the jurisdiction of the Town of Ramapo, which supervisor Michael Specht acknowledged had a checkered history…

A final report on the cause of the blaze that destroyed the Evergreen Court Home for Adults has yet to be released.
