Tolls Hikes Possible in TZB’s and Thruway’s Future

December 1, 2022 by Jeff Lewis

If you were concerned about congestion pricing, you’ve got another commuter toll to be concerned about: the Tappan Zee Bridge and the Thruway. On Monday, the Thruway Authority’s Board of Directors is expected to implement two five-percent toll increases system-wide, and a four-year toll increase on what is known as the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge. Tolls for New York E-ZPass holders would go up 50 cents each year for four straight years, starting January first 2024, eventually hitting $7.75 in 2027. There would be discounts for Rockland and Westchester commuters, but if you have an out-of-state EZ Pass or you don’t have any EZ Pass at all, the rates would be even higher. If the Thruway board of directors decides Monday to implement the plan, a series of reviews, including public hearings, would have to be held before the plan is made official.
