The East Ramapo Central School District’s attempt to have a lawsuit, that challenged the district’s method of electing board members, dismissed, has been rejected. Lohud.com reports federal judge Cathy Seibel upheld the suit filed by the Spring Valley chapter of the NAACP two years ago. The suit seeks to change the current voting method, which allows every registered voter in the district to vote for all open seats on the nine-member board. The NAACP wants a geography-based ward system, which would help the board more accurately represent the district. A trial could begin in February, ahead of the elections in May.
