State DOT Starts Removing Trees from PIP Where Fatal Father’s Day Accident Occurred

June 30, 2022 by Jeff Lewis

State road crews yesterday were clearing trees from the area of the Palisades Parkway where a North Rockland deli owner was killed in a freak accident on Father’s Day. That’s according to the Journal News. The owner of the Italian Food Center in West Haverstraw died, police say, when a large tree fell and landed on the family truck as they were driving north on the parkway. His son and daughter were both injured in the incident. DOT crews were working yesterday between Exit 15 at Gate Hill Road and Exit 16 at Lake Welch Drive. Signs posted in the southern part of the county on the PIP warn motorists to watch for delays through exit 18 and suggest taking Route 9W as an alternative.
