The Stony Point Action Committee for the Environment is marking 34 years of keeping an eye on the interests of North Rocklanders who care about the planet and their small corner of the world. George Potanovic is the President of SPACE, and says one of his proudest moments is when he and dozens of other groups combined their efforts to stop the local water company, United Water and Suez at the time, and the Haverstraw water supply project which included building a new water desalination plant…
That project was first conceived in 2006 and it took nearly a decade before it was abandoned. SPACE has also monitored commercial and residential development in the town. For more information about the group, you can hear George co-host “Tough Times with Lou Young” on Saturdays here on WRCR, or visit their page on Facebook.
