William O. Schaefer Elementary School in South Orangetown is closed today for building-wide disinfection after an individual there tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday. That unidentified person was in the building last week. All classes will continue online as scheduled. The school will reopen for in-person classes Thursday. All district schools are closed tonmorrow for Veterans Day
No official determination has been made yet, but published reports are suggesting the growing number of COVID cases in New York has state officials considering cutting indoor winter high school sports, including basketball, hockey and wrestling, for the season. The New York State Public High School Athletic Association announced over the summer the winter sports season would be delayed until November 30th, with practices set to begin on the 16th.
COVID-19 by the numbers now, here in Rockland, the number of deaths in the county since the pandemic began is up one to 685. We’ve got two in the hospital being examined, another 23 have been confirmed with coronavirus, and a total of 992 active cases. The state says since the crisis began, we’ve had a total of 18,995 reported cases, 239 more than Monday.
