School budgets and boards of education come up for a vote today in Rockland County. Because of the coronavirus outbreak, school district elections are taking place by absentee voting only. Voters should have received a ballot in the mail from their district. Ballots must be hand-delivered today or received in the mail by June 16th to be counted. In East Ramapo, following a federal court order last month to change over from an at-large voting system to a ward system, voters are only voting for the school budget and library board, but not for school board candidates. The ballots were printed before the court order came down. The school board is appealing the judge’s decision in the NAACP case, which is next scheduled to be heard by the US Court of Appeals in August.
