Sain Building Fails to Get out of Legislature Committee — Again — Stalling its Future, Again

February 4, 2019 by helpdesk1

The Sain Building has once again failed to clear a hurdle, keeping it from being sold. Minority Leader Lon Hofstein says an opportunity to declare the building surplus last week couldn’t get out of committee and come up for a full vote in  the legislature…

He’s referring to Hi-Tor shelter’s use of the building to take care of sick cats, but of course, they didn’t pay 4.5 million dollars for its use and they don’t pay half a million in taxes annually either, as a previous buyer who pulled his offer would have done. County Executive Ed Day says he wasn’t shocked that the property didn’t make it through the committee…

The future of the Sain building has been debated for about 3 and-a-half years and was officially closed in December 2017 when the last county employees there moved out.
