Rockland’s CE Slams New NYS Law Forbidding Law Enforcement Agents from Being COVID Contact Tracers

January 25, 2021 by helpdesk1

Rockland’s County Executive is slamming a new state law that forbids law enforcement agents from being contact tracers in the fight against COVID-19. While the law provides privacy protections, which County Executive Ed Day applauds, he says the new law, signed by the governor last month, forces Rockland to take a big step backwards…

The New York Civil Liberties Union backs the new law, saying it is integral to achieving public health, privacy, and racial equity. Executive Director Donna Lieberman says people are less likely to cooperate with contact tracers if they fear the information they give could expose them or their loved ones to deportation.

COVID-19 by the numbers now, here in Rockland, we lost two more to COVID, the total is 821. We’ve got 89 hospitalized confirmed with coronavirus, and 2,514 active cases. Our total case count is 32,660, that’s 253 more than Friday.
