The governor did manage to please a bunch of Rocklanders this week after word got out that she had signed a bill from local lawmakers that would give a tax break to state volunteer and EMS workers. Rockland State Senator Elijah Reichlin-Melnick sponsored the bill, and he told “The Morning Show” yesterday that without it, we’d stand to lose volunteers to other states, forcing the county to go to very expensive paid services…
The bill was carried in the Assembly by Rockland Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski and co-sponsored by Assemblyman Mike Lawler, who told “The Morning Show” yesterday he’s glad the governor finally signed the bill…
For local volunteers to actually see any financial reward from any local government in the form of a tax credit of up to 10%, the county legislature and other local government entities would have to opt into the bill. Volunteers would have to have at least two years of service to qualify for the 10% exemption.
