County, state and federal health officials are working ’round the clock to figure out whether polio is more widespread than the single victim thus far. Rockland County Executive Ed Day says if you’re not sure whether you got the vaccination, you should talk to your primary care physician and take their advice…
The number for the health department is 845-238-1956. Day says he’s concerned the younger kids – those two and under – haven’t been getting their shots. He says the last thing anyone wants to see is kids becoming paralyzed or losing their ability to walk. As of August 1st, among children who are two years old or younger, Rockland has a polio vaccination rate of about 60 percent. The statewide average is about 80 percent.
