Rockland, Westchester Counties Look to Rename Hudson River Crossing as “Tappan Zee Bridge”

December 31, 2021 by Jeff Lewis

As 2021 comes to an end and 2022 is right around the corner, Rocklanders and Westchester residents seem to be optimistic the bridge can be renamed as the Tappan Zee Bridge. “Morning Show” listener and occasional contributor Jimmy is fully on board…

An attempt was made in the Rockland County Legislature to show support for stripping the bridge of its “Mario M. Cuomo” name, but legislator and minority leader Lon Hofstein says the proposal didn’t even get out of committee…

Last month, Westchester Assemblyman Tom Abinanti introduced a bill that would change the bridge’s official name to “The Governor Mario M. Cuomo Tappan Zee Bridge.” Rockland Assemblyman Mike Lawler had already introduced his own bill last August to change the name to simply “The Tappan Zee Bridge.” Lawler says his bill has more than a dozen co-sponsors thus far.
