It’s been three months since traces of polio were found in Rockland waters and so far, it hasn’t retuned. Rockland County Executive Ed Day says health officials aren’t letting up, to make sure it doesn’t make a resurgence…
Day says vaccine hesitancy is dangerous and he doesn’t want to see that help stir up a polio comeback. A Rockland resident was confirmed to have contracted polio last summer. If you have questions about polio or the vaccine that’s available, contact the health department at 845-364-2512 or click here.
Meanwhile, the New York State Department of Health last week urged New Yorkers planning to travel this spring to Israel to get fully immunized against polio. Israel’s Ministry of Health confirmed four children recently tested positive, after one unvaccinated child showed polio symptoms, including paralysis. The other three children are currently asymptomatic. Israel has also reported widespread detection of polio in wastewater systems.
