In his daily coronavirus briefing yesterday, New York governor Andrew Cuomo said the state’s Attorney General will be investigating nursing homes that aren’t following state laws and COVID-19 guidelines. Newsday said around 20% of the COVID-19 deaths in New York occur in nursing homes. Controversy was sparked Wednesday when the governor said nursing homes were responsible for giving their staff their own protective equipment since they are private entities. Cuomo said yesterday it’s up to each nursing home to notify the state if they become overburdened…
Cuomo said the state has and will continue to provide PPE to nursing homes on an emergency basis. Families of nursing home residents who are concerned about the care they’re getting can call the Attorney General’s hotline at 833-249-8499 or go to www.ag.ny.gov/nursinghomes. The total number of cases of coronavirus across the state is now around 263,000 and close to 16,000 deaths, with over 9,800 reported cases, based on state data, and 436 confirmed deaths here in Rockland as of last night.
