Rockland to Declare State of Emergency; ME Confirms First Coronavirus-related Death in Suffern

Rockland’s county executive today is declaring a State of Emergency. Rockland schools are closed, New York City schools are closed, and local grocery stores continue to struggle with some items that people are stocking up on. The county identified three exposure sites, including the ASHAR School in New City, the Virgin Mary & St. Pachomius Coptic Orthodox Church in Stony Point, and the Prince & Princess children’s clothing store in Monsey.

The Medical Examiner Saturday confirmed the county’s first coronavirus-related fatality, a 64 year-old in Suffern, the second in the state. In a statement, Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Laura Carbone said the victim had other significant health problems that likely contributed to his death as well. In Rockland County, there are now 15 confirmed cases. Governor Andrew Cuomo said yesterday said most non-essential state employees should stay home…

The bill passed the House 363-40, with 40 Republicans voting against it. The Senate is expected to take up the legislation this week, and the president has signaled his support for the bill.
