Rockland State Lawmaker: Holtec’s 8-year Clean-up Delay is “Unacceptable”

A local state lawmaker says it’s unacceptable that the company overseeing the decommissioning of Indian Point says the process will take up to eight years longer than originally anticipated. Holtec International made the announcement late last week, at the meeting of the Oversight Board. Rockland’s State Senator Bill Weber of the 38th District says it’ll take a team effort to figure out what happens next…

In August, New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation banning the dumping of radiological waste from Indian Point into the Hudson River. A Holtec representative told Spectrum News the eight-year delay is based on what the company has encountered at other plants it’s been handling, and the possibility of legal action.
