Rockland Sheriff Looks to Educate Teens of Dangers of Drinking and Driving This Summer

We’re now in the 100 days between Memorial Day and Labor Day, often considered as the most dangerous time for teen drivers. Studies by the Automobile Association of America have found a sharp increase in fatal crashes when teens are behind the wheel. Rockland County Sheriff Lou Falco says his office is working to use technology over the next few weeks to educate students of the dangers of drinking and driving…

Though it might not be popular, it’s probably a good idea to have an adult in a car when a teen is driving. The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety finds when a teen driver has only teen passengers with them, the fatality rate for all people increased 51%. But when passengers 35 or older are along for the ride, fatality rates in crashes decreased eight percent.
