When it comes to recycling, Rocklanders do it very well. That’s according to Howard Phillips, who heads up RocklandGreen, the county’s solid waste management authority, which oversees local recycling efforts. Phillips says though we do many things right, there are some mistakes we make when it comes to recycling, including putting plastic bags in with recyclables…
Phillips says you should also keep paper and cardboard separate from glass, cans and plastic. Styrofoam also does not get recycled. Over in Orangetown supervisor Teresa Kenny is a big fan of recycling. The town has a food recycling program, and they just launched a new effort to help get rid of smaller items that don’t belong in home recycling bins, but, Kenny says, really shouldn’t go into landfills either…
There are bins for those items at Orangetown town hall and the Palisades Free Library on Closter Road in Palisades. For more information on the proper ways to recycle, visit RocklandGreen.com.
