That’s the Rockland County Emerald Society Pipe and Drums performing at the 39th anniversary of the 1981 Brinks heist that left two Nyack police officers and a Brinks security guard dead. The annual ceremony was held in Nyack yesterday at the memorial located at the exit 11 entrance to the southbound Thruway by Mountainview Avenue. Nyack Police Sergeant Edward O’Grady, officer Waverly “Chipper” Brown, and Brinks guard Peter Paige were killed in shootouts that began with a robbery of an armored car by members of the Black Liberation Army at the old Nanuet Mall. Judith Clark, one of the getaway drivers, was paroled last year after 37 years in prison. Governor Andrew Cuomo had commuted her 75 years-to-life sentence, making her eligible for parole.
