Rockland Lawmaker Pushes Bill to Keep Kids from Being Left in Hot Cars

August 26, 2020 by helpdesk1

Though the summer is fading, steamy, oppressive weather tends to linger, and a local lawmaker is continuing his push for added safety features in cars that could prevent children from dying after being left alone in hot cars. Rockland state senator David Carlucci says sometimes people get too easily distracted and forget their kids are still inside…

The legislation was prompted by the deaths of 1-year-old twins from New City after they were left by their father, Juan Rodriguez, in the back of a hot car for several hours in the Bronx last year. Rodriguez pleaded guilty to second-degree reckless endangerment and was sentenced to a one-year conditional discharge. Carlucci’s bill is currently in the Senate’s Rules Committee.
