Rockland Ends 2021 with Around 60 Opioid Deaths, Sheriff Suspects There Are Likely More

The C-D-C says more than 100-thousand fatal drug overdoses occurred in the first 12 months of the pandemic. Here in Rockland, Rockland Sheriff Lou Falco says last year we had around five dozen opioid deaths (see DA’s map, linked below) and more than 350 overdoses, both up from previous years. Sheriff Falco says those statistics alone are alarming, but they’re probably even higher…

Rockland District Attorney Tom Walsh says his office’s Narcotics Task Force helps fight the problem, but there are other ways, as well…

The D-A’s office has what’s called “Drug Court” which was set up over 20 years ago as an alternative to incarceration for certain drug offenders. The drug court connects low-level criminal defendants suffering from substance abuse to treatment services in the community.
