Rockland County Legislature Vote Expected Tonight on Village of Spring Valley’s Building Code Enforcement Duties Takeover

February 1, 2022 by Jeff Lewis

The Rockland County Legislature is expected to vote tonight on a plan that would let the county take over the Village of Spring Valley’s building code duties. Former Director of Rockland’s Fire and Emergency Services, Gordon Wren, said on Friday’s “Who Wants to Be A Volunteer” that he’s still skeptical…

The public hearing on the proposed new law is tonight at 7pm at the county office building in New City. Public comment can still be submitted by email to legclerk@co.rockland.ny.us also until 7pm tonight.

In a statement issued last night, Rockland County Executive Ed Day said he has submitted the proposed $1.5 million budget for the Office of Buildings and Codes to the Rockland County Legislature for their approval. The budget includes funding for staff, equipment, computer software and more. They’ll need at least 12 full- and part-time Building and Fire Inspectors and five support staff, and possibly contractors. The group would occupy space in the Pomona Health Complex. Former Suffern Mayor and NYPD Officer Ed Markunas is being tapped to serve as director, pending approval.
