Reports: Appellate Court Clears Way for Clarkstown Supervisor to Run Again, Overturns Term Limits Law

May 16, 2023 by Jeff Lewis

Appellate judges have decided that Clarkstown’s 2014 term limits law was illegally adopted. That’s according to the Journal News. That means Supervisor George Hoehmann, who helped craft the law back then, can run for a third term later this year. The panel cited the town’s failure to allow a public referendum before implementing the law. The Rockland County Business Journal says the case has already been appealed to New York’s highest court, the New York State Court of Appeals, but it’s not clear who appealed it or even if the court will hear the case. Hoehmann could not be reached for comment.
