Almost half of East Ramapo’s nearly 9,000 public school students are considered “chronically absent” as the district continues its all-virtual school plan. According to a report in the Journal News, thousands of kids there still don’t have their district-promised Chromebooks, something the new superintendent told the board of education earlier this week they are working on. Other comparable school districts, including New Rochelle and Nyack, reported a 95.3% and 96% attendance rate, respectively.
A staff member at the West Haverstraw Elementary School has reportedly tested positive for coronavirus. That prompted the district to temporarily go to remote learning as of Wednesday.
COVID-19 by the numbers now, here in Rockland, we’ve got three in the hospital being examined, another 20 have been confirmed with coronavirus, and a total of 1,048 active cases. The state says since the crisis began, we’ve had a total of 17,524 reported cases, 71 more than Thursday. The total number of deaths since the pandemic began remains at 683.
