Ramapo Looks to Make it Easier to Report Emergencies with Backyard Signs

June 13, 2023 by Jeff Lewis

Have you ever gone to someone’s house, and realized that if you needed to call 911 in case of an emergency, you aren’t exactly aware of the address you’re at? Well, seconds count in an emergency, and the town of Ramapo literally has signs that can help you out. With summer upon us and backyard pools open, the likelihood of danger is higher, and supervisor Michael Specht says you can get a free warning sign to keep posted in your yard to help others in case of an emergency…

You can pick up a sign at Specht’s office. According to the CDC, drowning is the leading cause of death in children in the United States ages 1–4. For kids ages 5–14, drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury death after motor vehicle crashes. Every year there are an estimated 4,000 fatal unintentional drownings, that’s 11 drownings each day.
