Positive COVID Cases Temporarily Shutter Some Rockland Schools

October 28, 2020 by helpdesk1

Positive COVID-19 cases in Rockland schools have created some temporary shutdowns. Students at Pearl River High School will have to quarantine until November 6th after a student there tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week. News 12 says North Rockland High school is closed until next Wednesday. Lohud.com reports Sloatsburg Elementary School and Suffern Middle School in the Suffern Central School District will be closed until tomorrow. RP Connor School in Suffern Central and Clarkstown School District’s Birchwood School in West Nyack are also reopening tomorrow. Link Elementary School in Clarkstown is on 100% remote instruction until Monday. Nine staff members there had to be placed in quarantine.

California’s been added to New York’s COVID 14-day quarantine travel advisory. No areas have been removed. Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey and Pennsylvania also qualify, but for them, the state only suggests practical, non-essential travel. The only states NOT on the list are Hawaii, Maine, New Hampshire, Oregon, Vermont and Washington.

COVID-19 by the numbers now, here in Rockland, we’ve got 24 in the hospital confirmed with coronavirus, and a total of 915 active cases. The state says since the pandemic began, we’ve had a total of 17,832 reported cases, 72 more than Tuesday, and the death toll is unchanged from yesterday at 684.
