Police Officials from Across New York ask Governor and Legislature Leaders for Meeting on Criminal Justice Reforms

January 30, 2020 by helpdesk1

Day 30 of the new Criminal Justice Reforms that were instituted in New York State the first of the year, and there’s still no apparent movement on making any changes. That despite growing concerns of law enforcement and other groups around the state and examples of violent criminals being released only to commit crimes again. Rockland County Sheriff Lou Falco met recently with sheriffs and police chiefs from across the state. Falco says they outlined their concerns about bail reform to the governor and the speakers of both the Senate and the Assembly, asked for a meeting, but haven’t yet heard back. That lack of communication, Falco says, hasn’t helped the situation…

Rockland assemblyman Ken Zebrowski agrees with some of the reforms that were made, but says the laws should not have been implemented the way they were…

A Siena College poll of 814 registered voters earlier this month found declining support for the bail law among Democrats, Republicans and independents. 49% of respondents said the bail changes were bad for New York, up from 38% last April, while 37% said they were good for the state, down from 55%.
