Penalties on the Rise for Code Violations in Spring Valley

Penalties for those who break building codes in Spring Valley have been increased to be a greater deterrent for those who might seek to take construction shortcuts. Rockland’s Office of Buildings and Codes was formed when the state authorized the county to perform inspections and levy fines, taking over for the village earlier this year. Rockland County Executive Ed Day says while some have taken legal action objecting to the fines, that means, he believes, that what the county is doing is the right thing…

The spotlight has been turned up on the village’s code enforcement practices since the death over a year ago of Spring Valley volunteer firefighter Jared Lloyd. He was killed responding to a blaze at the Evergreen Adult Home in March 2021.
