With the HNA Conference Center in Palisades China-based owners struggling to find a buyer and the town of Orangetown looking to build a new town hall and community center, some area residents are suggesting a solution to both parties’ problems. The COVID situation has forced the town to temporarily shelve its plans for a community center, though they are continuing ahead to look for a good way to replace its aging town hall just off the Palisades Parkway in Orangeburg. Town resident Susan Nemestee said at last week’s town board meeting that moving everyone from the current town hall to the HNA Center could be highly cost-effective…
Carol Baxter of Palisades agreed, the idea could work…
Orangetown supervisor Teresa Kenny says the town, meanwhile, is looking to see if there’s anyone out there who is interested in the property as-is…
Kenny says the property has been used for film shoots recently, and that’s a money-maker. The current town hall was built nearly 60 years ago. The town was also looking to put a community center on land owned at the former Rockland Psychiatric Center campus.
