O&R Gets Permission to Install “Virtual Power Plant Project”

July 9, 2020 by helpdesk1

Orange & Rockland has received approval to install Sunrun Inc’s rooftop solar and battery systems. It’s part of a virtual power plant project supporting New York’s transition to clean, reliable, locally-generated electricity. O&R spokesman Mike Donovan says Sunrun’s Brightbox home battery systems create value for the electric grid, giving O&R the ability to reduce electricity load on O&R’s heavily used distribution systems. Donovan says O&R customers benefit by gaining access to clean energy at a discounted rate…

Clean energy produced from rooftop solar panels gets stored in Sunrun’s Brightbox battery during the day. If there is an outage, Brightbox provides backup electricity to the customer’s home and enables them to power through the night until the following morning when the sun rises and recharges the battery. For more information about Sunrun, visit their website, www.SunRun.com.
