Officials: Rockland Measles Epidemic is Over

September 26, 2019 by helpdesk1

Rockland officials yesterday held a press conference to officially declare the measles epidemic over. The outbreak began almost a year ago, but it’s been over 42 days since the last person with the measles was reported. County Health Commissioner Dr. Patricia Schnabel Ruppert said the outbreak was made more complicated when unreported cases were discovered in doctors’ offices and in emergency rooms…

312 total cases were confirmed in the county. ScienceNews.org says the CDC was hopeful the U.S. will maintain its measles elimination status, but they added “we are not out of the woods yet.” CBS News in Los Angeles reported a traveler came through LAX with the measles earlier this week.
