NYS Senate Passes “Toll Payer Protection Act”

June 20, 2019 by helpdesk1

The New York State Legislature passed a bunch of bills yesterday, in their last scheduled full day in Albany. Among them, the Toll Payer Protection Act, co-sponsored by Rockland State Senator David Carlucci. The bill was vetoed last time around by the governor, but it passed the Senate with a 61-1 vote yesterday, and Senator Carlucci says he’s hopeful the governor will sign it this time…

Under the bill you could dispute fees online and set up a monthly payment plan. Additionally, drivers’ registrations could not be suspended due to unpaid bills. Meanwhile, the governor announced this week that the State Thruway Authority Board of Directors has approved the Design-Build team that will install the cashless tolling system on rest of the Thruway by the end of next year. The price tag for the convenience? $355.3 million. New York One reported the Senate was expected to work through early this morning Thursday, and the Assembly could take another day to pass additional legislation, and finish up by the end of the week.
