NY Governor Signs Legislation to Expand Tax Relief for Seniors

New York’s governor Monday signed legislation designed to make housing more affordable for seniors and families. Governor Kathy Hochul said the legislative package expands tax relief for New York homeowners, particularly those age 60 and over, but also first-time homebuyers…

Majority Leader, Andrea Stewart-Cousins of Westchester, said sometimes seniors are too proud or embarrassed to ask for help if they feel they don’t deserve it or need it…

Rockland’s state senator Elijah Reichlin-Melnick says this is an expansion of an already existing program, that needed the ceiling raised thanks to years of inflation…

Among other things, the bills provide financial resources for low- and moderate-income senior citizen homeowners who might need assistance with housing emergencies, or make repairs in the face of code violations.
