NYPD chief Terence Monahan wanted the governor to make a public apology, telling the New York Post the new bail reform laws made it impossible to keep those arrested for looting in jail. Two officers were shot and another stabbed overnight in Brooklyn. Their injuries were not life-threatening.
In COVID-19 news, the governor said outdoor dining at restaurants will be permitted for those regions entering their phase two reopening today, though not Rockland and the Mid-Hudson region, at least not yet. Upstate restaurants can have outdoor tables that are six feet apart, staff must wear face coverings and customers must, as well, when they aren’t seated. COVID-19 by the numbers now, the state has confirmed around 374,000 total cases and more than 24,000 deaths. In Rockland, the state says we’ve got about 13,260 reported cases, and the Rockland Health Department confirms 654 fatalities here in the county.
