NY Gov Looks to Legalized Weed for Budget Help

The state’s massive budget deficit could get some help from marijuana, if it were legalized. The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reported last week the governor made those comments in an interview earlier this month while promoting his new book. Rockland state senator David Carlucci agrees the time has come to legalize recreational marijuana, as voters in several states will be deciding on Election Day…

Voters in New Jersey, Arizona, Montana, and South Dakota will decide statewide ballot measures to legalize marijuana for personal use. Assemblyman Karl Brabenec, who covers western Ramapo and portions of Orange County, doesn’t think the governor could simply create a new law through executive order without going through the legislature…

The governor’s pre-coronavirus revenue projections forecast a $60 billion budget shortfall through the 2024 fiscal year. Last year, the governor’s office said recreational marijuana could bring in $300 million a year.
