NY Enters Tax Grievance Period

May 12, 2021 by helpdesk1

Here in New York, we’re in what’s called the Tax Grievance period. Any person who pays property taxes can try to get a reduction in property taxes form your local municipality. Real Estate broker Naomi Streicher of Q Home Sales in Pomona, says your taxes can come down a little, a lot, or not at all…

The state Department of Taxation and Finance says you can’t grieve assessments from prior years, only the current assessment. There is no cost to grieve an assessment and you don’t have to hire a lawyer. In general, the deadline, called Grievance Day, is the fourth Tuesday in May, but you should confirm the date with your assessor or municipality.
