A resurrected push to conserve and save open space in Rockland has the backing of an area legislator. Douglas Jobson, whose District One covers much of North Rockland and western Ramapo, says the “Open Space Preservation and Acquisition” program should be funded through the county’s budget…
The legislature has been reviewing the county executive’s budget proposal since it was released earlier this month. $30 million has been set aside in the county’s 2020 capital projects budget for properties that preserve environmentally-sensitive resources, protect farms, preserve historic and cultural places, or meet other eco-friendly criteria. Among the areas saved through the program when it was first launched in 1999, Haverstraw Bay County Park, Clausland Mountain in Orangetown, Erickson Farm in Ramapo, the Stony Point Marsh and Cropsey Farm in Clarkstown.
