A Stony Point activist has lost his battle with the town in federal court. George Potanovic is the head of the environmental group, SPACE, and had filed the lawsuit claiming the town violated his rights when they refused to broadcast comments made by him or others who attended and spoke at public town board meetings. According to The Journal News, U.S. District Court Judge Vincent Briccetti said no one’s First Amendment free speech rights or the right to access public meetings was infringed, nor was the 14th Amendment’s Equal Protection Clause violated. Stony Point Supervisor Jim Monaghan says he’s pleased with the judge’s ruling…
Potanovic says he was disappointed by the decision…
Monaghan says the decision not to broadcast public comments was never targeted at one individual but at all public speakers. Potanovic says he is exploring options for an appeal.
