NFPA Offers Thanksgiving Cooking Safety Tips

The Thanksgiving holiday is coming up and not only do we have to be aware of safely gathering together since COVID is still a thing, Rockland’s Fire and Emergency Services Director Chris Kear has other things on his mind…

The National Fire Protection Association says unattended cooking and cooking accidents make up the majority of home fires and fire deaths.

Thanksgiving is the busiest day of the year for cooking fires. If you do have a cooking fire, they say:

Just get out, and when you leave, close the door behind you to help contain the fire. Call 911 or the local emergency number after you leave. For an oven fire, turn off the heat and keep the door closed. For more safety tips and the dangers of deep-frying a turkey, which seems all the rage now, click here.
