A nearly three-month long investigation in Ramapo has led to the arrest of two suspects allegedly involved in a series of robberies from unlocked cars in the Village of Chestnut Ridge. Ramapo Police say they arrested 31-year-old Spring Valley man yesterday. An alleged co-conspirator, a 25 year-old Hillcrest woman, had been arrested two months ago. Police say they stole credit and debit cards from unlocked cars and used them at local businesses in Spring Valley and Hillcrest. Both suspects, who were not identified, were charged with Identity Theft, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, and more. Both were released on appearance tickets and are due back in court at a future date.
Haverstraw Police Arrest Nanuet Man with Loaded Gun
A Nanuet man was busted with a loaded gun at a local fast-food joint by Haverstraw Police earlier this week. Police say they were called to the parking lot of the West Haverstraw Wendy’s in the early morning hours Monday on a report of a suspicious man wearing a ski mask. Police found 22 year-old Michael Perez Leiva in possession of a firearm. He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device, resisting arrest, and other charges. He was arraigned and sent to the Rockland County jail on $5,000 bail.
Healthcare Provider Fined for Data Breach
A local healthcare provider has been fined by the New York State Attorney General’s Office after the personal data of 250,000 people was exposed in a ransomware attack two-and-a-half years ago. That’s according to the Journal News. RefuahHealth in Spring Valley has agreed to invest $1.2 million to develop and maintain stronger systems to better protect patient data. They’ll also pay $450,000 in penalties and costs to the state.
