A 52-year-old Spring Valley man was struck and killed Wednesday while walking on Route 59 in Hillburn. Ramapo Police say the incident occurred around 5:30 Wednesday night near 4th Street. They say the man was apparently walking northbound on the southbound side of Route 59 when he was struck by a 2023 Honda Ridgeline travelling southbound. Spring Hill Ambulance took him to Good Samaritan Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Honda remained on-scene and is cooperating with the Ramapo Police Crash Investigation Team. That investigation is ongoing.
Dominican University in Orangeburg Brings in Interim President
The Board of Trustees of Dominican University New York in Orangeburg has found an interim president to take over for the retiring president. Sister Mary Hughes will take over January first, 2024, for Sister Mary Eileen O’Brien, who will have served two terms as president for a total of 35 years. Sister Mary Hughes is a member of the Sisters of St. Dominic in Amityville. Among her many educational roles, she has been an Adjunct Professor at the Fordham University Lincoln Center Campus, teaching a doctoral seminar on The Spirituality of Leadership, and she has served as president of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious. Sister Hughes is expected to remain as Interim President until a permanent replacement is named.
