ERCSD Buildings Rated Poorly by State
The East Ramapo School District better win the next Powerball, because the district is looking at possibly a half-billion dollars in repairs for 70 percent of its buildings, including all of their schools. That’s according to the Journal News. The paper says East Ramapo buildings failed a recent state-mandated Building Condition Survey, an evaluation that’s done every five years, covering 50 categories, including structural and health and safety. Not one building in use by the district was considered “satisfactory.” The necessary repairs are estimated to be in the ballpark of a quarter-billion dollars, but interest and other costs, could push that to a half-billion. The district has 20 buildings: 13 schools, the admin building, storage facilities, a central kitchen and others. No other area school district buildings in the survey had any “failing” buildings. Two years ago, by comparison, according to the Journal News, the South Orangetown school district’s buildings all rated satisfactory or excellent.
