The town of Clarkstown Friday issued an emergency order to prevent buses from dropping off migrants anywhere in town. The move follows New York City mayor Eric Adams executive order last week preventing buses from coming from out-of-state to bring migrants to the city. Chicago pulled a similar move last month, with Hoehman noting that their suburbs have been overwhelmed, adding suburban communities don’t have the resources to handle high volumes of migrants. Under Hoehmann’s order bus companies face fines of $750 per person illegally dropped off plus impoundment of vehicle with related costs and fines. The emergency order will be effective for 30 days, for now. Hoehmann said the town board is expected to take legislative action this month.
Increased Tolls on NYS Thruway
Hope you’re ready to pay more on the New York State Thruway. Toll increases went into effect yesterday, the first system-wide increases in 14 years. For New York E-ZPass customers, for example, the base rate will increase by five percent and another five percent in January 2027. The Tappan Zee bridge will also see increases of 50 cents each year through 2027. The plan does, however, maintain a 40 percent commuter discount plan and raises resident discounts from 17 to 20 percent for qualified Rockland and Westchester residents.
