New York’s Greenlight Law Starts Today

New York’s Greenlight law takes effect today, giving undocumented immigrants the ability to get driver’s licenses legally. The DMV won’t ask applicants about their immigration status or even a social security number. Rockland and Westchester state senator David Carlucci says the law makes New York roads safer…

The law prohibits the DMV from giving drivers’ information to ICE or other immigration agencies without a court order. The Fiscal Policy Institute has estimated around a quarter million people could qualify for the licenses under the new law.
